A senior official informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that approximately Rs 20 crore has been dedicated to enhancing pedestrian footpath infrastructure on both sides of the road from Dalgate to Habak crossing.

“This investment aims to create safer and more accessible walkways for residents and visitors alike,” he said, adding that around Rs 20 crore has been spent for the development of pedestrian footpaths on both sides of the road from Badyari Chowk to Habak crossing.

The official said that approximately Rs 9 crore has been allocated for the construction of a dedicated cycling track spanning two kilometres, connecting Nishat Sathu to Doldrum.

“The stretch will have weaving decks, fishing points (on which the work is ongoing) and Gazebos,” the official said, adding that the initiative not only promotes eco-friendly transportation but also encourages a healthier lifestyle.

Officials also disclosed plans for the second phase, saying that the extended connectivity beyond Habak Crossing has also been initiated at an estimated cost of around Rs 32 crore.
