Over 12 lakh patients visit SKIMS Soura this year

Srinagar, Dec 27 : SKIMS Soura, a premier medical institution in J&K, witnessed a huge influx of patients, with over 12 lakh individuals visiting the Out Patient Department (OPD), including Accident and Emergency (A&E), in the past year.

In the OPD, 387,088 new patients were registered, and 501,690 revisit patients sought medical attention, according to data accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

In the Gynae and Obstetrics, 97,796 patients visited over the past one year, while the total number of registrations in Accident and Emergency is 267,180, taking the total outpatient attendance including A&E to 1253,754, the data reveals.

In terms of inpatient attendance, the institute recorded 57,277 routine admissions, 25,384 emergency admissions, and 7,362 Gynae and Obstetrics admissions, totalling 89,973 admissions.

Hospital performance indicators revealed an average daily admission of 246, with a bed occupancy rate of 81 percent. The gross death rate was reported at 3.8 percent, while the net death rate stood at 1.83 percent.

The surgical activities in the institute were robust, with a total of 7,151 routine surgeries, 4,577 emergency surgeries, 3,901 Gynae and Obstetrics surgeries, 15,629 major surgeries and 3,688 minor surgeries performed in the past year.

Major surgeries were distributed across various departments, with notable contributions from Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Urology, Gynae and Obstetrics, Surgical Oncology, and Orthopaedics.

Data shows that detailed investigations conducted as part of the Health Information System encompassed a wide range of medical specialities, including an advanced centre for human genetics, biochemistry, blood bank, cardiology, clinical haematology, dental, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general medicine, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, neurology, nuclear medicine, ophthalmology, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR), radiodiagnosis, and urology—(KNO)
