Drug inspector arrested in bribery case in Handwara

Srinagar, Nov 15 : The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Wednesday arrested a drug inspector for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant in Handwara area of north Kashmir.

In a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), drug inspector Ishtiyaq Ahmed Baba had seized some medicines from the complainant and to release the same, he demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe.

The statement reads that the complainant, however, approached the ACB Baramulla with written complaint requesting for legal action against drug inspector.

It reads that after the complaint ACB investigation revealed that drug inspector had seized some medicines from complainant and on pretext of releasing them he already took bribe of Rs 8000 from complainant and was demanding more bribe of Rs 2000 from him.

It added that a case FIR No. 12/2023 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) was registered at P/S ACB Baramulla against the drug inspector and investigations were initiated.

“During the course of investigations the officer was caught red handed while demanding remaining amount of Rs 2000 from the complainant. He was immediately taken into custody.”

It further reads that searches were also conducted at his residence in Bemina during which cash amount of Rs 2 Lakh was also recovered and seized, while further investigations are going on—(KNO)
