Srinagar, June 18: In a significant development, a new political front is emerging in Kashmir, aiming to bring about a fresh wave of change and representation.

Prominent political figures, including former ministers, legislators, and grassroots leaders, have come together to form this front, signalling a significant realignment of political forces in Kashmir.

“The group from Jammu and Kashmir held multiple meetings with officials in Delhi and have got the go ahead,” sources told Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com.

Sources said the group comprises of Basharat Bukhari, Junaid Mattoo, Ishfaq Jabbar, Yasir Reshi, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Safeena Beigh, Mir Mohammad Fayaz- former MP, Nazir Ahmad Khan DDC Budgam, Haroon Chodhary and many others.

Basharat Bukhari, in a recent interview with a national TV channel, revealed that he has distanced himself from the activities of the Peoples Conference. This departure is a significant blow to the party, as Bukhari held the position of vice-president under Sajad Lone’s leadership.

“I have refrained from participating in party events for the past month,” Bukhari stated according to Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com.

He strongly advocated for the democratic process and emphasized that it is the right of the people to have elections and establish an elected government. Bukhari posed a question, expressing his confusion about why the BJP is hesitant to conduct elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He went on to challenge the BJP to face the ground realities instead of evading them. Bukhari firmly asserted that the BJP’s mistakes, lies, and misunderstandings will eventually catch up with them, leading to inevitable consequences.

People in New Delhi believe that this alliance will provide a strong platform for voicing the concerns and aspirations of the people and strengthen the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with New Delhi.

The new political front would press for assembly elections, restoration of Statehood, and constitutional guarantees for the jobs for the local youth of Jammu and Kashmir, he said.

The alliance would fill the political vacuum in Kashmir and bridge the gap between various communities and foster unity among the diverse population of the region, they said, adding that “It will emphasize the importance of inclusive governance, participatory decision-making, and transparency in the political process.”

The front is expected to contest upcoming civic and assembly elections and present a formidable challenge to existing political parties in Jammu and Kashmir.

Observers believe that the formation of the new political front reflects the changing dynamics and evolving aspirations of the people of Kashmir.

It signifies a shift towards a more assertive and proactive political approach, driven by the desire for meaningful change and inclusive representation.

While the new political front faces numerous challenges and hurdles, its emergence marks a significant milestone in the political landscape of Kashmir. (KDC)
