Pulwama, Jan 06 : The non-availability of public transport in evening hours has caused immense hardships to the people in several areas of South Kashmir.
Hundreds of commuters, mostly office-goers and students could be seen stranded at the sumo stands and on the side of the roads in Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag on different routes during evening hours.
Locals from Pulwama told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the people from different villages including Litter, Rajpora, Shadimarg, Keller, Tahab, Chandgam, Lassipora, Koil, Awantipora and other areas are facing immense problems due to the lack of public transport service in the evening hours for the last two months in the district.
They said that they have been arriving home late for the last two months due to unavailability of transport.
“Public transport disappears from important routes after 5:30 pm, causing trouble for the people. The administration must look into this issue,” Subzar Ahmad, a passenger said.
After 5:30 PM people hardly get any passenger vehicle to reach home, he said.
Passengers from different areas of Kulgam, Anantnag and Shopian also said that they suffer in absence of public transport during evening hours and in morning hours as well as transporters reach in stands very late.
Passengers said that if any vehicle remains available in the evening, they are overcrowded and over charging.
They appealed to the higher authorities to look into the matter so that they could heave a sigh of relief—(KNO)
