Scattered light rain forecast as minimum temp drops slightly in J&K

Srinagar, Aug 7 : While the weatherman has forecast scattered light to moderate rain and thunderstorms over Jammu and Kashmir, minimum temperatures recorded a drop at most places on Sunday.

A meteorological department official told GNS that there is a similar forecast for the next 2 days in J&K.

In the last 24 hours till 0830 hours, the MeT official said Kathua received 30.6mm of rain followed by Gulmarg with 11.6mm, Bhaderwah 4.3mm, Pahalgam 0.9mm, Jammu 0.2mm and Srinagar traces.

Regarding minimum temperature, he said, there was a slight drop in mercury at most places in Kashmir and Jammu division.

Srinagar, he said, recorded a low of 18.6°C against 19.7°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.1°C above normal during this time of the year for the summer capital.

Qazigund recorded a low of 16.3°C against 18.2°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.5°C above normal there, he told GNS.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 13.4°C against 14.8°C on the previous night and it was 0.4°C below normal for the south Kashmir resort.

Kokernag recorded a low of 17.1°C against 18.1°C on the previous night and it was 1.0°C above normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 10.2°C against 11.2°C on the previous night. However it was 2.1°C ‘below’ normal for the north Kashmir place.

Kupwara town saw a low of 17.4°C against 16.7°C on previous night and it was normal for the place during this time of the season, the official told Global News Service.

Jammu recorded a low of 24.9°C against 24.8°C on the previous night. It was 0.1°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal recorded a low of 17.4°C, Batote 18.1°C, Katra 23.2°C, Bhadarwah 18.8°C and Kathua 23.6°C. (GNS)
