More Rains Lash J&K, Mercury Falls Below Normal At Most Places

Srinagar, July 31 : More rain lashed Jammu and Kashmir even as the weatherman on Sunday forecast more showers and thunder over Jammu and Kashmir in next 24 hours.

“There is possibility of scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thunder over Jammu and Kashmir in next 24 hours,” a meteorological department said, adding, “There is possibility of isolated to scattered light rain and thunder for subsequent two days.”

Regarding rainfall in the last 24 hours till 0830 a.m., the weatherman said Katra received 89.8mm followed by Jammu (20.9mm), Kathua (13.2mm), Kukernag (11.6), Bhaderwah (8.8mm), Qazigund(7.8mm), Pahalgam (7.3), Srinagar (6.0mm), Banhihal (5.2mm), Gulmarg (4.8mm),Kupwara (4.0mm) and Batote (2.2mm).

The minimum temperatures also recorded a drop at most places in Kashmir Valley and Jammu division.

Srinagar, the MeT official said, recorded a low of 18.8°C against 19.1°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.1°C below normal during this time of the year for the summer capital, the official said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 16.7°C against 18.7°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.5°C below normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 14.4°C same as on the previous night and it was 0.8°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort.

Kokernag recorded a low of 15.7°C against 16.8°C last night and it was 1.0°C below normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort, the MeT official said, recorded a low of 11.0°C against 9.5°C and it was 1.5°C ‘below’ normal for the north Kashmir place.

Kupwara town saw a low of 17.9°C against 17.6°C on previous night and it was 0.5°C above normal for the place during this time of the season, the official told Global News Service.

Jammu recorded a low of 24.5°C against 25.1°C on the previous night. It was 0.3°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal recorded a low of 18.2°C, Batote 18.6°C, Katra 22.0°C and Bhadarwah 19.0°C, the official said. (GNS)
