April records 14 encounters: 23 militants, 2 soldiers killed

64 militants killed in J&K this year so far, slain include 39 militants from LeT outfit alone

Srinagar, Apr 30 : Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory reported 14 encounters in the month of April in which 23 militants were killed.

As per the data available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), of the 14 encounters, 13 were reported in Kashmir division and one in Jammu division.

Data states that 64 militants were killed in J&K this year so far and among them two were killed in Jammu division and 62 in Kashmir division.

Among 64 militants killed 17 we’re non locals and 47 locals and most of them 39 we’re affiliated with LeT, 17 with Jaish, 06 with hizb and 02 with Al-badr.

On April 01, Muneeb Ahmad Sheikh son of Shah Mohd Sheikh, resident of Tak Mohalla Shopian, affiliated with LeT was killed in an encounter in Turkwangam.

“On April two LeT militants namely Umar Nabi Teli alias Talha son of Ghulam Nabi Teli, resident of Ladoo Khrew and Shafat Muzaffar Sofi alias Muavia son of Muzaffar Ahmad Sofi, resident of Batagund Tral were killed in an encounter in Arigam Tral,” the data states “On 07 April, after brief exchange of fire militants managed to give slip to forces in Haripora area of Shopian. On 09 April, militant identified as LeT commander Nisar Ahmad Dar alias Musaib son of Gh Hassan Dar resident of Redwani Bala, Kulgam was killed in an encounter in Sirhama Anantnag.”

The data stats that on 09 April, militants managed to give slip to forces after brief encounter in Check-i-Samad area of Kulgam district.

“On 10 April, two non-local militants were killed in an encounter in Bishembarnagar area of Srinagar. On 13 April, two Jaish militants including a Pakistani commander Jameel Pasha and hybrid tl militant Sameer Ahmad Sofi son of Farooq Ahmad Sofi, resident of Amshipora, Shopian was killed in an encounter in Khur Batpora Kulgam,” the data adds. “On 14 April, four newly recruited militants identified as Showkeen Ahmad Thoker son of M. Abdullaah Thoker and Farooq Ahmed Bhat son of Ab. Salam Bhat both residents of Sugan Shopian and Aqib Ahmad Thoker son of Farooq Ahmad Thoker and Waseem Ahamd Thoker son of Ab.Gani Thoker both residents of Heffkhuri Shopian were killed in an encounter in Badigam Shopian.”

On 16 April, militants managed to give slip to forces in Watnar area of Kokernag in Anantnag after brief gunfight, however, one soldier identified as Neeshan singh was killed in initial exchange of fire, the data states.

“On 22 April, two non-local militant and a CISF personnel was killed in an encounter in Sunjwan Jammu. On 22 April, three militants including a top LeT commander Mohammad Yousuf Kantroo were killed in an encounter in Malwah area of Baramullah. On 23 April, two non-local jaish militants were killed in an encounter in Mirhama area of Kulgam district. On 24 April, three LeT militants Arif Ahmad Hazar alias Rehan (deputy of LeT’s top commander Basit), Abu Huzaifa alias Haqqani (Pakistani) and Natish Wani alias Haider, a resident of Khanyar, Srinagar were killed in an encounter in Pahoo Pulwama,” reads the data. “On 28 April, two Al-Badr militants identified as Aijaz Hafiz of Dalipora and Shahid Ayub of Dheeri Murran were killed in an encounter in Mitrigam Pulwama.”

Meanwhile, as per the data available with KNO J&K reported 39 encounters in ongoing year so far and among them 25 we’re reported in South Kashmir.

“Pulwama including Awantipora reported nine encounter, Shopian witnessed eight encounters, Srinagar reported seven encounters, Kulgam reported six encounter, Budgam, Anantnag and Kupwara reported two encounters each while as Ganderbal, Baramulla and Jammu reported one encounter each,” the data adds

In January among 12 encounters, three were reported in Kulgam district while Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama and Shopian witnessed two encounters besides that one encounter was reported in Kupwara district, the data states further, adding that “In February, Shopian witnessed three encounters while Srinagar and Pulwama witnessed one encounter each, however, rest seven districts witnessed zero encounters.”

The data states that in March, Srinagar and Pulwama including Awantipora witnessed three encounters each while Kupwara and Ganderbal witnessed one encounter each, however, rest six districts witnessed zero encounters in Month—(KNO)
