Abid Qayoom, elder brother of the woman while talking to news agency—Kashmir News observer (KNO) said that his sister was admitted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Tangdhar on Friday evening and Saturday morning at around 06:00 she gave birth to a baby boy.

He said that immediately after birth his health conditions started to deteriorate and was under the supervision of a health team there but at around 11:00 am Saturday they (Doctors/ Health team) referred him to Handwara District Hospital for further medical examination.

“After reaching Handwara Hospital, the doctors attended the infant and found a injury on his head due to which maximum points of blood was lost with the result the health conditions further started to deteriorate,” Abid said. “For the safety and health improvement of the baby doctors there advised us to go to Srinagar for more advanced medical attention to save the precious life.”

Abid also said that but it was a half-lived joy by our family and all were thunderstruck and shell shocked as he passed away halfway to Srinagar at Pattan and all of these sufferings and pain were only because of the carelessness of the medical team at SDH Tangdhar.

“They didn’t cater to my sister and baby well and it is because of their callous approach and negligence that we are made to witness this moment,” Abid said adding that this was the first child of my sister who passed away just hours after being born.

He stated that I won’t blame anyone rather it’s complete medical negligence of the SDH Tangdhar medical team since doctors at Handwara hospital found that the newborn baby has some sharp cut on his head which led to this death.

The family members have demanded stern action against the SDH Tangdhar medical team saying that it’s their negligence and they must accept it without any further explanation as is evident from the head injury.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mehraj Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kupwara told KNO that he is now aware of the aforementioned incident but said that he’ll verify.

“I’ll look into it but as of now I don’t know anything about the same”, Dr. Mehraj said—(KNO)
