Srinagar, Dec 16 : Strange but true is the fact that the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) is either unaware of the posting of some of its teachers who have not been transferred even after a decade or is least interested in bringing major transformations in the department.

The teachers at government-run-schools believe that the ATD is a mockery in the name of streamlining teaching staff.

One of the teachers told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that there are a number of teachers who have not been transferred even after fifteen years—thus affecting the quality of the education in the government schools.

“The Annual Transfer Drive (ATD) of the department seems a futile exercise as the very purpose to reshuffle the human resource in the department is not met due to frequent stays on the transfer lists by teachers,” the teacher in the department said.

He said that last year, many thousands applied for transfers and appeared in the ATD list prepared by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir but unfortunately, just a few dozen teachers were transferred in the end, dropping the rest of the eligible teachers,” he said.

Moreover, he said that DSEK itself should prepare the transfer list of all those teachers who have a mature stay and transfer them to the schools where there is a requirement.

The teachers further said that the department should carry out mass transfers to infuse new spirit in the department this academic year.“The long stays of teachers have downgraded the standard of education in the department as such teachers prefer relaxing places to get adjusted and avoid the work.”

“In the recent Annual Transfer Driver (ATD), most of the teaching staff of the School Education Department in Kashmir division has said that they were either facing health issues or were having a mature stay at one respective institution,” the teacher said.

KNO had reported about the masters who have applied for the transfers this year, including around 891 masters who have said that they were having a mature stay at their respective place of posting while nearly 150 have mentioned health issues as the grounds of the transfer.

Pertinently, the government in the communiqué issued earlier has asked the eligible teachers to apply for their transfer based on various grounds including security grounds, physical disability, spouse posting, health issue, marriage ground and mature stay.

When contacted to Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Tassaduq Hussain Mir did not respond to the frequent calls from this reporter—(KNO)
